  1. Hi everyone, just taking my first stab at a Pointui theme. Even though I couldn't really get into Fallout 3 I really enjoyed the art and the feeling of the game. After seeing the Black Berry Pipboy theme that came out recently I decided to try and recreate the Pipboy for Pointui:

    Theme Download

There's still a few quirks with it -

Not sure what I'm going to do about the primary nav buttons. The message indicators are kinda of center like this, and the Calls one isn't aligned with the rest in landscape. Probably will get updated with metalzoic's nav buttons.

FutroHome is more the theme than the theme is, lol.

    Features:

    • Power button - exit Pointui
    • Brightness button - change brightness levels
    • HP bar - battery level, click to bring up Power Settings
    • AP bar - cell signal strength, click to bring up comm manager
    • Clock - just a regular clock in 24h time. Click the colon, or the inside numbers to bring up the Time/Alarm settings. The outside numbers don't do anything. It would open up Time when I was swiping to change screens sometimes, so I disabled them.
    • Schedule - shows up to 4 lines of events. Click on an event to bring up the event details. Based off of: http://community.pointui.com/topic/applet-appointments-and-tasks(4 events max, but could be less if you have long subject lines)
    • Search bar - click to bring up a text input box. Type in your search string, and it will launch your default browser to Google mobile search. If your string starts with 'http' it will assume you're putting in an address and try to open that up instead of Google search.
    • Special feature - there's one cool effect that I don't want to give away here ;)

    FutroWeather
Just a re-skinned version mardy88's awesome weather applet. I've tested QVGA some, but I don't have a VGA phone so it might not work so hot there. I'll have a friend test it out tomorrow though.

  3. Thanks enemia! It'll hopefully be done within a week. If anyone wants to take the PSD file and run with it that's cool with me :) I'll see about a blue after the green

  5. Nice applet but I don't know how you will make it happen with what we have right now.

    Good Luck and nice concept...

  6. Warder, looks great.

Rather then borrow assets, maybe you could email bethesda, a website kit or press kit might have some assets you could use, normally they have different permissions for usage but you never know.

Bethesda shutdown the pipboy throttlelauncher theme, don't be surprised if they send a cease and desist.

  8. Thanks for the heads up geniusofthecrowd. I'll see if I can find someone to make some icons in the same style instead. I really doubt they'll license them for free or dirt cheap.

(I might have to change the name to Pypboy 3001 or something too lol)

  9. I started working on this tonight:

Having some problems with the theme though. I thought the date/time bar was removable by taking out the title jif's, but this doesn't seem to be working. I've seen a lot of discussion on this and I'd like to throw my hat in on the get rid of it side ;) It's just wasting space. Also the applet button should probably just go into settings...I don't see why you'd want to change it that much and if you really want your app's icon on there, you can do it yourself, you know?

Anyways, first theme issue is my Soft.Keys.Left.Cap.png and right are showing up behind Soft.Keys.Middle.Repeat.png - anyway to fix this?

Second issue is just that Soft.Keys.Middle.Repeat.png repeats in a weird way, but not a huge deal. I might be able to use it to fix the above issue if there's no actual fix.

I used MarcLandis' "BigClock" for the clock and just replaced all the jif's for the theme.

Then added the battery and signal meters to his applet as well...and we'll see what else I can shoe horn in there :)

    Thanks for the feedback everyone.

    *edit*
Forgot to ask, what dimensions should the background be? It's 240x320 right now, but it's getting offset 20-30px to left for some reason (the big empty black area on the right in photo).

Also it seems deleting the title bars broke the title bars on all the other settings screens and what not. Oops... :D

  11. Hi Warder,

    Nice theme concept!
To remove date/time bar, you have to delete these files:

      HomeScreen.Title.jif
      HomeScreen.Title.Selected.jif

from your current theme and also from the default theme.

QVGA background should be 400x400 pixels to be WQVGA compatible in both orientation (portrait/landscape).

    Do as Montecristoff states
...or read my post here :-)

Using my way you don't have to modify the default theme, and this will most likely be a lot easier for PointUI users ;-)

(In short, replace the files with a 1x1 full transparent JIF, which are attached to my topic)

Very good looking! It will be great if HP and AP shows battery and signal level.

  14. Thanks Montecristoff and ABCDEFG!

Got a little further today. The search box is actually just a button that loads a text input panel. If what you put in starts with http it will launch your browser to that URL, otherwise it appends to the google mobile search url to do a search. (I can't tell you how much I've wanted this lol)

Got a lot of the icons updated, but I'm having some problems with the unread count icons. Is there for what's what on these anywhere? I've probably just been working too long and it's something simple.

Thanks again for your help and feedback!

This makes me happy! As soon as themes started rolling out I thought to myself "I should make something falloutish!" but haven't had time to invest in it.
I'm really looking forward to how it turns out.

You should get in touch with Hellbender to see if he could help with an awesome pipboy background.
He's done most of my favorite themes, steampunk, CarvedBlackRubber etc... and judging from his SteamPunk graphics He may be able to help make something really cool.

I'd really like to see some themes start using the Panorama app so they can have multiple themed backgrounds.

    Just an idea!
Anyway, I'm really looking forward to the finished product

Please, Please finish this awesome theme... =) Looks great. I prefer the menu / contacts look int he first picture. Just avoid the word p1pboy when crafting this thing as you might get a C+D

    Hello Warder,
Can't wait till you release the finished product!
My photoshop skills aren't what they used to be (obviously) but I thought I'd show what I put together as a background for your theme this morning.

It's not final and it'll need some adjustments, but I won't be able to finish it until you release your theme/applets. I've shown it with your bottom bar from the first post so you can get a picture of it. I suppose the actual buttons at the bottom I'd have to make invisible (is that even possible?) so the background image will work, or make it so the button images blend seamlessly with the background or something.

I'm actually planning this to be used with Monte's and Costp's panoramizer app so I'll also have a matching landscape version as well and possibly some other sliding images that match up.

Hopefully I'm not stepping on your toes here, if so let me know and I'll keep it to myself!

    Thanks.

  24. WOW! That's pretty awesome metalzoic! The quick launch buttons are great, and I can't wait to see what you have in mind with the panoramizer.

Working on finishing up the theme now. Just found that jif to png app which will help a lot in figuring out each image.

I don't know what we can do about the menu bar. Seems like we can only change the text color and the backgrounds (and even then the bg placement is pretty strange)

thanks im glad you like it.
ive improved it and added in more detail but ive thought of a way to panoramize it so the transition will be better. that means i have to rework it so it might be a bit before i show it again...

as for the menu bar, can the text be left out or made transparent and still have the buttons work? can the text be changed to say a "." then we can color match it so it blends in with the graphics?

ill try to get more done as i can...

edit: maybe we can change it in pro? if so then it may turn into the pro only version...
if so i already have the graphic to replace the pointui logo.

    That. Is. Badass!
The secret effect is awesome! I just posted in another topic about if such a thing was possible. HA! The funny thing is I was asking because of an idea I had for your theme.

The menu bar at the bottom doesn't quite line up on the bottom right on my Omnia (wqvga) is it aligned correctly on yours? Gotta go check out your other apps now...

    Really, really cool!

    - futro home clock doesnt run, always stay at 00:00
    - click on search, HP, AP doesnt lead to anywhere, i.e. nothing happened
    - futro dialer last 2 rows doesn't work --> 7,8,9,*,0,# and also call and add number
    - futro cal has sum bugs that when +-x/ is pressed, it clears the numbers (wats the point of having it, lol?)
P.S: i'm using a QVGA with build 2.0.28e, dunno if its the problem, try update it to .30 now, hope it will work out (i do prefer .28e tho, less buggy and better in some way)

Apart from that, an awesome theme u made, look amazing, hope people will develop sum skin for other applets for this too, cant wait

    Posted 10 months ago #
  29. Sorry they're not working for you nartoab. I'm not sure if it's a version issue or not. I take everything right off my phone and zip it up to make sure I have working copy so everything should work...

Actually the clock isn't working because GetHours() and GetMinutes() are new in version .30 of Pointui. So you'll definitely need to upgrade if you want that.

On the dialer issue, make sure the nav buttons are valigned to the bottom (Menu > Customize > Home Screen Buttons VAlign: Bottom).

For the calc - I do see some weirdness if I type a lot of numbers (eg 555555555 turns into -555555584 and nine 9's rounding up to a 1 and nine zeros). Might be an issue with converting from string to float and back or something... Thanks for letting me know!!

AP and HP buttons don't work for me either but everything else does (.30 on i910 Omnia)

The calculator says 0 when you hit +-x/ but just enter the next number and the actual calculation works...

I really like that the Applet button is on the top left instead of right. I can actually hit it easily now. Oh yeah, the applet button icon for the "blank" applet is just a white page.

What is the number in the top left for? How many times you've run the theme?
