    • Touch Screens Only
    • English Only

This may work on square screen devices but we don't support them at present.
This should run on non-English devices but we only support English at present.

This is an early beta we are making available for you to try and we have not tested on a wide range of devices yet, so if you have any problems please let us know.

  3. Thanks Pointui Devs!!! Thanks Monte for the update on Twitter!

I'm running WM 6.1 Qvga (HTC Touch)

    Qustions, bugs, suggestions...
    - When I receive a call, my phone doesn't ring @ all... Is this a trial thing or bug?
    - When I clear Calls, the calls are still there until I go back to the 1st Screen and go back to calls, only then it is cleared.
    - Can we have an option to show/hide SIM Contacts?
    - When I exit Pointui Phone, I THINK it kind of disabled my default HTC Dialer skin. I had to re-enable the dialer skin setting through Advanced Config... ( does this have to do with the OEM Phone Skin setting if it is set to saving memory?)

Still testing it out... Will report more later...

    I780, 320x320 ,wm6.1 official, FTouchSL installed

    Problems found:
    - FTouchSL must set exception in order to allow the app to scroll. so anyone who does not get the "drag & drop" effect and is running FTouchSL must add exception
    - if using the mouse function of the optical mouse / dpad replacement the screen will follow the mouse pointer so you'll never be able to use the mouse with the app.
It's probably because of the graphics library (the same behaviour happend with the beta from wisbar). I didn't go for WM6.5 because of the mouse issue still not fixed, so having an issue with the mouse here will probably have the same effect.
    - using the app is very difficult because of the "themes"

Overall it runs, but since I780's biggest asset is the mouse in my oppinion, it's not quite a good solution.

Running on Samsung Omnia. as per nate
    Questions, bugs, suggestions...

    - When I receive a call, my phone doesn't ring @ all... Is this a trial thing or bug?
    - When I clear Calls, the calls are still there until I go back to the 1st Screen and go back to calls, only then it is cleared.

Again as per nate can the ability to hide sim contacts be included.
Will the finished product be as per this or a little cleaner?
    Comments:
I found it really hard to see the names on the contacts screen.

  7. I am running this on Xperia X1 - Win 6.5-Clean

    Pros:
    - t looks very nice and screens movment has a nice feel to it.
    - You can add as much contacts as you want
    - contact page for each person it nice and has enough information
    - Dial pad is easy to use and wants you to use it.
    - I like for the fact the squares are little so force you to use photo of each person instead of their names.

    Cons:
    - When Someone calls, my phone doesn't ring.
    - Needs restart when you change theme,.
    - When you click the "windows" button it will go to windows but when you switch back to PointUI phone, the windows loader keep spining in the middle of screen(doesn't stop)
    - I would like to click on time and direct me to time and alarm.
    - I thought one of this squares is a random special button and it wasn't

    This is for now.
I do understand that this a beta version but needs lots of work. Solid UI.

Good job to all people which have worked on this. Hard work pays off.

    On a Fuze w/ 6.5
    - Phone doesn't ring
    - The "working" image spinning in the middle of the screen most of the time.

I like the look and idea!

Been playing around with it for a couple of hours now:

    - Similar to other feedback, the ringer does not work
    - Deleted contacts are only removed from the screen after a soft reset
+ Speed is incredibly quick, moving from screen to screen
+ Love the way contacts are added

    Couple of questions:

    1. How will this integrate with the Call History functionality in Home? Seems to be a fair amount of overlap between the 2 products.
    2. Is it planned that PointUI Phone will take community themes? At the moment, I would say that alienworkshop's retro suite Spirit might best fit with the existing Phone themes.

    Oh and one last question:

Given that this is a 30-day trial version, does this mean that the final version will be released within the next 30 days? (Probably breached Shane's rule about release dates here, but I had to ask ;P )

My feedback is the same as ganzee's.

Definitely much less of a memory hog compared to HTC's dialer too which is an awesome bonus.

Sort out the minor issues and maybe custom themes in the future and you have a winner!

  18. Thanks for all the constructive feedback.

When I receive a call, my phone doesn't ring @ all... Is this a trial thing or bug?
Bug: We're currently working on it.

When I clear Calls, the calls are still there until I go back to the 1st Screen and go back to calls, only then it is cleared.
Bug: We're currently working on it.

Can we have an option to show/hide SIM Contacts?
Would be great but not possible as the list is optimised and we get the SIM contacts as part of the set that is returned. If they bother you that much you could delete them ;)

When I exit Pointui Phone, I THINK it kind of disabled my default HTC Dialer skin. I had to re-enable the dialer skin setting through Advanced Config... ( does this have to do with the OEM Phone Skin setting if it is set to saving memory?)
Yes, you can change it back in the settings within Pointui Phone to save you using Advanced Config.

Needs restart when you change theme
Its the safest and least complex way to go. There are more then graphics involved in the themes.

When you click the "windows" button it will go to windows but when you switch back to PointUI phone, the windows loader keep spining in the middle of screen(doesn't stop)
What are you returning to when you hit the Windows button?

I would like to click on time and direct me to time and alarm.
Nice suggestion, we'll put it on the list but no promises it will make it into the product.

I thought one of this squares is a random special button and it wasn't
As in an easter egg? Was there some type of functionality that you expected?

How will this integrate with the Call History functionality in Home? Seems to be a fair amount of overlap between the 2 products.
Thats because Home 2 is awesome. Something we've discussed was having options to have Home 2 call up Phone and focus the particular screen/funcitonality. They are separate products and we're not going to hold people to ransom so you have buy every product we make just to get the most out of our big ticket product.

I said it in the other discussion but just to recap, its separate because, not everyone likes/uses Home 2, there is a market for a dialer replacement, adding all of the call management stuff in Home 2 was asking a lot of it given the technical limitations we deal with already and we wanted to try out some new things without affecting our happy and loyal user base.

Home 2 is our swiss army knife, bang for buck its hard to beat, does more and you can do more then any other UI on the market while still being useful, logical and easy to use. Chances are there will be many Home 2 users who are happy what they have as there are many nice applets to get dialing happening etc. Phone is a specific tool for the job, lightweight, focused and streamlined for its purpose while delivering the functionality people expect from a dialer replacement.

Given that this is a 30-day trial version, does this mean that the final version will be released within the next 30 days? (Probably breached Shane's rule about release dates here, but I had to ask ;P )
LOL, if we take longer then 30 days to ship an initial paid release I'll reset the trial so you aren't locked out.

Is it planned that PointUI Phone will take community themes? At the moment, I would say that alienworkshop's retro suite Spirit might best fit with the existing Phone themes.

Sort out the minor issues and maybe custom themes in the future and you have a winner!
We like a winner. We can't make any promises but we know how much you all love your customisation. We have new methods for packaging so if/when we are happy with the tools and the base set of graphics there will be more info. Please note, this is not like Home 2, there have been adjustments to the way things are done so we get the most out of the rendering and reduce memory consumption.

Q: What theme are you using?

    Nice reply Shane. Well said!

"When you click the "windows" button it will go to windows but when you switch back to PointUI phone, the windows loader keep spining in the middle of screen(doesn't stop)
What are you returning to when you hit the Windows button?"

To elaborate and shed some light on what is actually happening is: After launching the dialer, you minimize it via the Windows logo (Jumps back to Titanium for me at the moment on my current ROM). After maximizing the dialer again the wait cursor is stuck on screen and it has a transparent background, showing my Titanium wallpaper below it and if the wait cursor is above a button I cannot press it with a touch of the touchscreen.

Q: What theme are you using?
I'm currently using the Classic blue theme.

If I may make one suggestion (which I imagine would be quite far down the road map)... Maybe an option for a more 'streamlined' contact setup? At the moment having lots of random squares is well.. Random. If that contact 'portion' or 'page' of the screen could be neatly organised like TF3Ds 2.5's people tab that'd solve a lot of confusion.

Over at XDA it seems the general consensus is a little too abstract for people's liking. However with the notion that you're willing to release the tools and base set of graphics when they're ready that issue with the themes may very well be remedied at that point and time. Being a graphic guru I'd like to be able to gloss it up somewhat or use the graphics to give the dialer a professional look similar to something like the HTC dialer whilst retaining your 'panning' functionality.

  20. I thought one of this squares is a random special button and it wasn't
As in an easter egg? Was there some type of functionality that you expected?

I thought of a lotto or something that you win. Random winner. I am kidding. Reason I said it is: you see lots of squares around with different color and it sucks that most of empty square are for contact.
I wish for more stuff to be added.

I know, its beta and you are improving it.

But the Group of you, I should congratulate you for this.

    Xperia is WVGA

  21. I think people are missing the point that its just a screen full of spots for contacts the random element is the colour. We don't force you to add the contacts in a specific order or sort them. You could quite easily lay out the contacts in rows of four from top to bottom and have a wall if contacts.

One thing that I think would help freak people out less is if its more conventional and aligned to the top left. It would have rows of five complete squares and while it does take away some of the feeling that its part of a bigger thing it seems that we're just too ahead of the curve for our own good.

I still think people are boring but we'll take baby steps and one day you will all fall in line ;)

I really like it alot. If the bugs are fixed I won't mind purchasing it. Also if it integrates into PointUI nicely it'll be even better. The Windows dialer sucks and this really replaces it nicely. Also adding notification links would be pretty cool.

    Other than that, nice job!

Yes Shane whilst you are right that anyone could organise there contacts neatly, it doesn't have any neat borders around each contact, it doesn't have separators.. For someone like me that doesn't have any pictures attached to contacts either all I get is a plain square with a name - I guess it's just a bit too plain and random for my tastes hence why I want to get my hands on the themeing tools :)

Aligning the contacts screen to the top left is a great idea also.

    Posted 4 months ago #
  24. dickenz, what you say is sensible its just so annoying seeing a sea of default contact icons. I know the comfort of whitespace all too well which is partly why we decided to step out a little, plus adding whitespace meant even smaller images which seemed like a complete waste of effort. Yeah we could have 4 instead of 5 blocks per row but then that would kill the number of rows and there is some rhyme and reason amongst the random.

So many times I see nice mockups of what could be and the reality is they all just do an Apple. We're not any different in the context of Home 2, performance and footprint played a big part there. Fav Contacts in Home 2 are very conventional image + name and I still think it works well as its consistent across the Fav Apps and Menu also but you could apply the Phone mentality to them and it would translate easily enough, not that you'll be seeing that anytime soon.

In Phone especially we're of the opinion that these are your favourites and if they are so important then surely they deserve an image and with that it would hardly be a plain screen.

  25. I am not boring:D
I love it when actually youare forced to put photos. You have better connection with people you acutally have their photo on your screen. Random squares are nice. I think best part of the design goes to the dialer.
Main page(first section) needs more work.

Before to forget this one, when you have your contact name only(without pictre) sometimes you can white solide squres and you can not read the contact's name.

The one thing I haven't figured out yet is how to add the contacts photos. All I ever get is their name. How do you get the photos?

  28. Shane, thanks for the reply... I was wandering if we can change the applications font, it would be a neat feature too !
Shane, I know you guys are currently busy with a lot of things, I was wandering when can we get the tools to create a skin for Pointui Phone? I already have an idea for a skin ! [Not Urgent]
