  1. Hello all,
as many of you may know I'm working on version 2 of my DeviceManager applet.
Here's the first release of version 2... be aware it's still an alpha release, thus very few features are working already. I post it for 2 main reasons:

    1) Show you the "new" layout -- bigger buttons in main panel.

    2) Most important, I would really appreciate some feedback from you all while I write down this new version. Adding features while I'm writing "from the beginning" is obviously easier than adding them later.

    WHAT DOES ALREADY WORK:
Basically, just the upper row of buttons. :)
The leftmost toggles "Flight Mode", but when a GPRS connection is established it will terminate it (of course the icon will change too).
The 2nd one is clearly for bluetooth. Tap it to toggle BT on and off. When BT is ON tap and hold it to toggle discoverable mode.
    The 3d one toggles WiFi.

    WHAT IS STILL MISSING:
    A lot. :D
Let's see some features I'm thinking about, sorted by the "associated" button.
    Top-Left button (Flight Mode)
Normally, tap to toggle flight mode. When GPRS connection is established, tap to terminate it.

    Top-Center button (Bluetooth)
When BT is off, tap to turn it on. Tap and hold to open "BT Settings" menu. Don't know yet exactly what kind of options there will be in this menu. :)
When BT is on, tap to turn it off, tap and hold to toggle "discoverable".

    Top-Right button (WiFi)
Tap to toggle WiFi. Tap and hold to open "WiFi settings" menu.

    Bottom-Left button (Sounds)
Same as current "DeviceManager" -- tap to open "Sounds" menu (profiles and such). Tap and hold to toggle "Normal" and "Vibrate"... or toggle "Auto"? Or maybe put an option to let the user choose.

    Bottom-Center button (AutoLock)
Same as "DeviceManager" -- tap to open options menu, tap and hold to toggle autolock.

    Bottom-Left button (Close)
Yet again as "DeviceManager" -- tap to open options menu, tap and hold to close Home.

Beside this, I will add many more features in this version. For example, change the "device name" in Bluetooth menu, user-defined sound profiles, and (but this will come later) let the user "manage" sound (and connections) profiles -- let's say turn the ringer and radio off each night and turn it back on in the morning.

What do you think? Would you like some more or different features? Please make me know!

  2. SCREENSHOTS
As you may notice, the applet will automatically change its aspect to reflect the theme currently selected. This leave much less work for theme developers! :D Just edit (if needed) the icons. Sizes are 96x96 for VGA, 48x48 for QVGA.

i prefer this version with big buttons! qvga please.

  7. QVGA will come for sure! Just let me complete at least the "basic" features of the applet first, once I define *all* the graphic files needed I will convert them to QVGA.
Or, if you wish, you can download the png's I attached to the second post, resize them to 48x48 pixels and convert them to jif format to have QVGA version. :D

    @capt_harlock

I'll just wait for the QVGA version to come out. Sorry, I know nothing how to work with pictures.

No rush, take your time. But can it be done tomorrow? :D Just kidding.

Good luck and more power to you!

    Hi capt_harlock77,

As i told you in the old topic, it would be nice to implement a G/GPRS switch button to save more battery. Anyway this version have better button size, that's great !

Keep up the good work man ! :)

Downloaded and installed DeviceManager2 [ALPHA] on my SE Xperia X1 (wvga) but it doesn't run. Do I need to resize the graphics, if so what size?

    Thanks

PS. Neither does DeviceManager1 for that matter. Any ideas why?

  13. Hi captain,

    Thanks for this new version!
I particulary appreciate the way you re-use some theme elements. Great!

I'm struggling to get this working on my device (Orbit 2 (HTC Polaris)). I've got the applet showing in the list but when I add it, it simply won't run. Have tried using the QVGA icons by replacing the ones in the original attachment but no success. Can run the first Device Manager fine.

Anyone advise or offer any help?

He man, i really liked you're first version. There was only 1 problem. If a change something in the sound menu the windows logo doesn't change. so when i put it on vibrate in the devicemanager and then i type a sms, it seems like that the sound is still on. I'm using a tytn 2 with wm 6.1.
you think you can change this?

I'm really interested about this applet, how is it with the development?

  19. Hello all,
first of all I wish to apologize for my long, unadvertised absence -- unfortunately I've been very busy with work in the last 2 months and I didn't have the possibility to continue the applet development.
Anyway, now things have settled down, so I can start again working on my applet. Hopefully I will release shortly a new (more functional) version.
Thank you all for your patience.

    Hi guys,

calator: thanks for the QVGA png icons version
andyh: you have to copy/paste the .jif icons you will find in this post to make the applet work ;)=

Captain harlock77: all waiting for your final version.
Love this interface much than the v1.0. Icons talk by themselves. No text is needed :)
    THANK U !

    Hey,

I love this applet! I can't wait until all the features work since it'll definitely be a big help! The only suggestion I could make is within the sounds profiles, keep an option to let user choose manual, since I use S2U2 to set the phone to Vibrate/Silent/whatever with the volume buttons on my Omnia. Although a healthy choice of profiles would be pretty nice! More than just "Silent" "Flight Mode" and such so I can choose a profile that can more customize the phone sounds. Like alot of times I enjoy a soft profile for nights, and a louder one for hanging out with friends. But just my ideas!

Also I hope the lock button is compatible with S2U2! That'd be awesome

  27. Thank you!!

In the old Device Manager thread you said you would probably add a backlight control once home2 supports it. As it does now via Device.SetBacklightBrightness could you add one? As a suggestion: I found samsungs solution pretty neat - they added a single button which upon clicking toggles between very dark (energy saving) - medium brightness - very bright - back to very dark. You need at most 2 taps / clicks and I found it to be very intuitive. Would be great :-)

    Thanks again!
