Hello all,
as many of you may know I'm working on version 2 of my DeviceManager applet.
Here's the first release of version 2... be aware it's still an alpha release, thus very few features are working already. I post it for 2 main reasons:
1) Show you the "new" layout -- bigger buttons in main panel.
2) Most important, I would really appreciate some feedback from you all while I write down this new version. Adding features while I'm writing "from the beginning" is obviously easier than adding them later.
WHAT DOES ALREADY WORK:
Basically, just the upper row of buttons. :)
The leftmost toggles "Flight Mode", but when a GPRS connection is established it will terminate it (of course the icon will change too).
The 2nd one is clearly for bluetooth. Tap it to toggle BT on and off. When BT is ON tap and hold it to toggle discoverable mode.
The 3d one toggles WiFi.
WHAT IS STILL MISSING:
A lot. :D
Let's see some features I'm thinking about, sorted by the "associated" button.
Top-Left button (Flight Mode)
Normally, tap to toggle flight mode. When GPRS connection is established, tap to terminate it.
Top-Center button (Bluetooth)
When BT is off, tap to turn it on. Tap and hold to open "BT Settings" menu. Don't know yet exactly what kind of options there will be in this menu. :)
When BT is on, tap to turn it off, tap and hold to toggle "discoverable".
Top-Right button (WiFi)
Tap to toggle WiFi. Tap and hold to open "WiFi settings" menu.
Bottom-Left button (Sounds)
Same as current "DeviceManager" -- tap to open "Sounds" menu (profiles and such). Tap and hold to toggle "Normal" and "Vibrate"... or toggle "Auto"? Or maybe put an option to let the user choose.
Bottom-Center button (AutoLock)
Same as "DeviceManager" -- tap to open options menu, tap and hold to toggle autolock.
Bottom-Left button (Close)
Yet again as "DeviceManager" -- tap to open options menu, tap and hold to close Home.
Beside this, I will add many more features in this version. For example, change the "device name" in Bluetooth menu, user-defined sound profiles, and (but this will come later) let the user "manage" sound (and connections) profiles -- let's say turn the ringer and radio off each night and turn it back on in the morning.
What do you think? Would you like some more or different features? Please make me know!
