    Hi.

I did post about this yesterday, but found a problem so blanked out the posts (wish there was a delete option in these forums!)

Anyway, for people that have had the problem with non-xml rss feeds not showing up, I've written a small ASP.Net app that forces the content type of pages. For example, this URL does not work in the RSS Reader...

    http://feeds.ign.com/ignfeeds/ps3/

But if you pass it as a parameter to my app, like this...

    http://software.johnmolyneux.co.uk/url2xml.aspx?url=http://feeds.ign.com/ignfeeds/ps3/

then it does work. So I've edited FEEDS.XML as the link above, and the rss reader now works with my choice of feeds.

It's okay for others to use this for this purpose. There's no bandwidth limit on the site, so feel free to use it as you need.

If anyone wants the source code so they can host it somewhere else, you can get it here...

Hope this helps some of you out. I've now got all the rss feeds I want working, when most of them previously wouldn't.

  3. johncmolyneux, this is a great Idea, this might be usefull for some more applications.
    Thank you.

  4. Another Idea, to make this also more powerful, would be to convert non UTF characters (like ISO ones) in UTF characters.

I would like to ask you if i can use your code to make an "applet"(nearly applet mod to be certain) that will need you rss code to read feeds...

  6. LiveDuo, of course, the code is completely open and you can reuse it as you want, if you can also enhance it, it is welcome (there is still a bug with non-UTF feeds). And good luck, I will wait on your applet

  7. Thx joelalouse...im very happy to receive that answer...i think im not gonna use non-utf feeds and if you like to see it i started a topic (and i will try to keep it up-to-date) about my applet...

    thanks again!

joelaloose - I'm sure I can modify that code to include what you need. It sounds pretty straight forward really. Can you give me an example URL for an RSS feed that doesn't work?

    Thanks :)

  9. I can give you the example of the french sport site lequipe.fr : http://www.lequipe.fr/Xml/actu_rss.xml.

    Cheers.

    Thanks joe.

I've sorted that now, and I don't think I've broken UTF feeds (fingers crossed!) ;)

If anyone has any problems with that conversion app, please let me know and I'll see what I can do to fix it.

    Cheers.

    Hello joelaloose,

Thanks for what appears to be a great app. The only prob I have is that it's only in French & i don't have the technical ability to edit the xml code. any possibility of releasing an English QVGA version?

joelaloose, great applet you made mate ! i found it very useful
however, as been asked here before, can you make the enhancement for feed authentication too ? this is perfect to show the twitter's timeline rss, but since it require authentication, i still can not use it. so if it can be done then it would be perfect !
