  1. Let me introduce you the first beta version of my RSS Reader Applet.

    Todo :
    - Correct the timer to allow automatic update of the news
    - Enhance the display of the full news (drop the html tags)
    - Find a better way to display the news title
    - Correct the display of accentuate chars.
    - Work on other designs

The first thing you will have to do after installing this applet is selecting your favorite rss feed (configure -> Select Rss feeds) and then update the news manually (configure -> Update Now)

PS : If you are french speaker I put a set of french language rss feeds, you simply have to rename the feeds.fr.xml in feeds.xml to take them into account.

    ChangeLog Beta2

    • Add scrolling capacity (click on scroll button to display the 6 next news, click again to display the first ones)
    • When you click on the full news you will be redirect on the online news
    • Small display changes

    ChangeLog Beta3

    • Allow Auto Update
    • Small Code Improvments

    ChangeLog Beta4

    • Support of accentuate chars (é,è,à,ù,ç,...)

  2. Very Nice.

    Thank you

  3. Awesome! Keep up the good work!
Working well on my HTC Touch Pro!
No technical problems at all (besides the ones you mention in the todo list)
I understand that it is a beta.
    A few requests?
Allows only 6 items from each feed. Any way to scroll to the additional items in the feed?
I see the "online" tab, which is also great! Perhaps allow a touch on the full text to open the web link? Not sure if this is possible, as I know that many do not have touch screen.

    Great app!
    +1

    Posted 1 year ago #
  6. hey.. i've try to edit feed.xml of this app. and i can put AAP journal RSS there. but... the view limited. no scroll. and from 20 RSS topic of this journal, only 4 that can be seen in this applet.
There is also some problem when URL of the RSS is not end up with .XML. No article viewed at all.. there is one example in feed.xml of this applet. NYTimes Business.

    Thank you for your great work on this applet. To make more use of the 2.0.28e full screen space can I respectfully request some additional work;

If you edit "while (cpt < 9)" and place it on a "non sonnar 5 day weather" background
    you get this -

To better use the interactive space in the applet can I suggest
    - move RSS header from top to bottom of screen (as it is read only)
    - move the RSS icon to top right of screen where it can be tapped for next feed or tap n hold for settings, or you could stick with your current icons underneath each other in the top right of region

In addition it would be helpful to include an easy way to add user RRS feed URL's from within the applet

An option for the passive section of screen, should you extend your frame, would be local weather (as in today applet but reformatted to spread across the bottom of the rss display.

This applet completed my applet suite of functional, everyday, timely information on .UI!
    Well done.

  8. Thank you for your feedback
    - colorado_al : I add a scroll button on the new beta 2 version
    - marnalom : you can edit the feeds.xml file to add your own feeds, concerning the feeds without the .xml suffix I have to investigate, I don' now for the moment.
    - michaelp : to add a new feed you can edit the feeds.xml file.

question to PointUI Guys : Is it an easy way to intepret the html tags from a string, or better, a screen interpreting html ?

    Not yet...
Joel has built a html renderer. I will talk with him to see if we can include some html rendering methods in scripting.

  11. Thanks for the quick update!! Scroll is great! Click on full text to open web link great!
Working well on my HTC Touch Pro!

    1 bug found:
When I have 6 Feeds listed under "select feeds",
When I view the feeds on the main screen, I have to click "Next Feed" 2 times at the #6 feed to get back to #1.

If I only have 5 feeds listed under "select feeds" and #6 is empty, it goes from #5 to #1 with only 1 click on "next feed"

    Thanks for the great work!!!

  16. marnalom sory for your problems but you have to be a bit more patient... I have to investigate for this, I have currently no response for this issue, and developping pointui Applets is not my job, I just share what I developped for my personnal usage.

Updated files 6/4/09 - marnalom, thank you for your comments. I can't take any credit as I have only mixed and modified the hard work of others.

    The screen shot from post 7 was for the purpose of discussion. You will notice from my requests that several changes need to be made for it to work as it should. Some of these I have been able to do including;
    - moving the 3 applet function keys to the top of screen
    - allowing 12 lines of feed in a single view
    - bringing the last 6 lines of feed from inactive display to interactive display by using the scroll function so the lines can be 'clicked' for details

    Installation;
    In folder \device\program files\home2\appletribbon\RSSReader\
    - Rename your current RSSReader.cs file to oldRSSReader.cs
    - Unzip, copy and rename attached RSSReader.cs.txt to RSSReader.cs in above folder
    - Copy .jif files to above folder

    Restart .UI Menu>Help>Disclaimer>Exit
To undo these changes simply rename/remove the new RSSReader.cs file and rename your oldRSSReader.cs to RSSReader.cs
More mods I have done here

    My preferred view in black

If you open the RSSReader.cs in wordpad I have highlighted the values I have changed in Bold.

You will notice I have also borrowed jif files that are better suited the dark background (Thanks to messages applet)

The latest zip provides some minor repositioning of icons and allows update interval to be configured (coded but not switched on in the original release)

would indeed really like a autoupdate ;) and maybe a function that can be build into todayscreen applets.. where you can see how many rss updates there are ;)... plus a builtin rss finder.. like the weather applet.. more sms/email like rss only titles display function... man! gl there is lot of room for improvement and alrteady a lot of great work is done!

    Great Applet, very useful !
Btw I have a small bug, not a big deal but if it can be fixed it would be great. Does any french speaker/reader who checks for french rss feeds have trouble when rss feed displays "special letters" such as É - È - Ê - À - Ù - Ç - Œ - etc...
For mine, those letters don't appear and words containing those symbols are cut i.e.: "opéra" is "opra", "aprÈs" is "aprs"...
    Can it be fixed ?
    thanks for your replies!

  27. Thanks all for your feedbacks,
I am close to finish the auto update stuff
@jafced : your issue is related to encoding, I already know this (I'm french speaker too) but I currently have no idea how to solve this.
I won't be at home during 10 days, so you should wait a bit for updates :(

    Regards

btw joelaloos.. is there anyway to be able to have authorisation with username and password for microblogging sites as twitter?.. the rssfeed is perfect from that site for you rapplication.. however it needs a username and password :S

btw love the application.. put it to test for real now and it actually already did most of the things i expected it to!

    good work mate!

PS: if anyone knows a different solution to be able to have the twitter rss inside a normal rss client like this.. plz tell so ;)
