This is the first release of an applet making use of the Gps class in Pointui Pro.

    Features:
    - Gives basic GPS information (latitude, longitude, speed, heading, altitude, Satellite Count)
    - Gives access to a static Google Map and shows your position (You need an internet connection!)
    - Zooming Map

Could someone help me with the graphics?

    Update (MapUI_0.2):
    - Fullscreen Map
    - New map navigation - click a point on map to center
    - click and hold a point to mark a target, an arrow will guide you there. Thanks to Qdoggy for this idea!
    - click longitude/latitude in mapview to get a roadmap
    - This applet contains some tricky calculations, so i release it under creativ commons license!

    Update (MapUI_0.2.1):
    - bugfix release
    - position calculation and "marker" is much more exactly now!

    Update (MapUI_0.3):
!!!There seems to be a problem with the cab file, so please take the zip. Simply extract it to "Program Files\Home2\AppletRibbon"
The zip also contains some minor bugfixes...

    - added moving direction indicator on map screen
    - added compass and target guide to info screen
    - added distance to target calculation
    - click and hold compass to add(or edit), remove or focus up to 6 targets
(the target you set by click and hold a point on the map is always focused!)
    - thanks to aussie_boi for the logo

    Update (MapUI_0.4):
    - added gpx and loc file parsing to add a target.
    - added 'bread crumb' trail
    - added graphics from aussie_boi for gps and mapview
    - bugfix: should work for wvga devices now, please report. I need help to fix this!

    Update (MapUI_0.5):
    - "bread crumb" trail improved: waypoints are saved speed dependent
    - hopefully now works for wvga
    - added "Trackmanager":
    features:
    - delete tracks
    - show track summery, show track in map
    - show waypoint summery, show waypoint in map
    - export track to kml file

Please remember: - You get Settings by click and hold compass
    - Change mapview (roadmap/satellite) by click lon/lat in mapview

    Know issues:
    - I need to switch GPS on and off several times to get it working (Omnia)

If you want to support further development:

    Hi zelendel,

was you connected to internet before starting the map? If not try to zoom in and out. And you need an active gps (fixed)!

Yes nimche, that would be nice.

really nice! cant test it though cause i am using wm6.5 and currently checking if my gps is working.. when i now it can work ill try out this thing that looks really nice.

for the looks.. i would add a simple border around it so it doesnt take the whole screen. and thanput a little space under the image of the map with all the other data showing. furthermore i would show a little dot indicating where you are exactly :)

    nice!

now it should work ( new version in post #1), I wrote a little to to fast;-)

  16. I have the map. I still have latitude and longitude behind softkeys but I have the map. GREAT work. I am going to take a walk and see how it goes report back in a few.

Report: Map followed me very accuretly even into my parts room. I do think the main screen needs a background frame to be able to see the font with lighter backgrounds like the AMANA theme.

I think to draw a simple frame (no background). Should i place longitude and latitude on the map (on non widescreen devices)?

    Posted 1 year ago #
  18. A simple Frame would work. I think it would be a good thing to have long and lat on the map. maybe maybe shrink the map area a little to have it under it or at the bottom of the map in the bottom right corner so not to block the arrows

  19. SE Xperia:
I have no map or anything else. Tried to turn it on/off 5 times but didn't help./

Edit: After 276 on/off press, map started to work.

Can we zoom or I am asking too much...

    Madhatter,
Are you using a custom (unlocked gps) rom on your Omnia?
Because if not the stock verizon rom has gps disabled...

hi nimche, zoom is on map top left and right.

hi madhatter, pointui uses the windows-api, so there is no chance for gps settings.
make shure to have pointui pro running!

The wait cursor on the map screen is off-centre. I'm still waiting after many minutes for the map to dispay (wait cursor still running) and I do have an internet connection.

Does this run on WM5? Run TomTom on my O2Flame VGA but can't get it to acknowledge GPS signal in the Applet. system GPS port com8.

    Any thoughts?

nice work jo, i have the omnia and also have to switch GPS on and off alot to get it to work. Im going to be blunt with you though, for me personally i dont see this as a useful applet in Home2 :( sorry to sound harsh.

Im guessing you have plans to develop it further though which in that case keep up the good work!

    @ michaelp:

pointui uses the windows-api, so there is no chance for gps settings
and i use the pointui gps-class, so it's a question to pointui team.
What are your windows gps settings?

@ Werkzil: I know that a gps function in a today plugin like pointui is not useful for everybody. The Applet is useful for my, 'cause i use gps very often (geocaching...). On the other hands it simply shows what is possible with pointui...

My plans for the next development:
    - Set up graphics for all devices and landscape
    - maybe add a compass

great work! works a charm on my diamond. my only suggestion is to change the show map and gps on buttons so that the standard pointui font is used. thanks for the hard work!

I can see this being useful as a starting point for other uses. One thing I think would be cool is if for example you park your car somewhere and pin point it's location in an app like this and then when it comes time to find your car again you could use the app to find it. Then you are using it for more than what is possible in google maps alone. Great work jo-keks afraid I can't use it yet with my GPS locked i910 Omnia. Unlock the GPS already Verizon...
