Dear Point UI team - manufacturer,

Is there anybody out there?

It looks to me like the manufacturers of PointUI have abandon the ship and have forgotten to tell the passengers.

You don't seen to be answering your support emails about getting a replacement activation code.

Come on guys I just want to activate your beloved program on my new replacement phone.

....

I just put PointUI and more specifically PointSense on my brand-new HTC HD2 from my HTC Diamond ... wooow what power, what grace, what speed ... kick the butt of HTC Sense (Touch Flow 3D renamed).

Of course there is just one little problem I can't activate PointUI with my existing code from my decommissioned phone... yes these activation attempts was prior to copying over the Point-Sense install (I just had to try my old phone's setup on the new phone).

I only got the HD2 because it will probably be the last of the Windows Mobile 6.5 high performance phones before Windows Mobile 7 comes along and locks it down.

Anyone know how to activate PointUI without it having to check with PointUI activation server because I don't think it is approving licenses anymore.

Restart PointSense: PointSense Revolution!

Maybe some good news....

Hi all,

I just wanted to throw this out there... I know there have been a couple of topics speculating that blueocean and PointUI team are working together but I hardly think this is the case... Not a word from Shane or Joel for at least 4 months... I believe the last post we had was Shane's in the PointUI Phone thread... Correct me if I am wrong but this is what I can see/remember...

So I ask again, after visiting this site daily for the past couple of months just hoping for some neat news or a great new project - Sorry fellas the WP7S ones don't interest me - Where are you Team PointUI? What are you up to? Not a word in months? I have to get this off my chest but that isn't the best business decision considering you've got all these paying customers outside your doors waiting for a sliver of light or for a piece of information to trickle down the pipes... I mean the roadmap hasn't been touched for ages... And it doesn't look like we're ever going to see completion of those prophesied features which saddens me as Home2 at it's most mature stage would have been an extremely compelling product...

Then again for those of us that have been around for a while you may recall a similar scenario with the original version of PointUI... They did a hit and run run just the same... Not a word for months and then boom all of a sudden there was a pending release of Home2... Can we expect another product that has up until this point been a Fort Knox of a secret?

Come on guys give us something, we are all loyal customers as seen by the activity, a quarter of the year down the track, on your forums... Or have you given up on WM6.5 with the upcoming release of WP7S and it's "no custom UI" policy? Apparently WM6.5 will be here for a while yet... However I am jumping ship to Android or going to attempt it sometime this week... Can we expect something for that platform?

I request one more time please team PointUI give us a ray of light in this dark tunnel that has become Home2/PointUI !

Love the PointUI Phone dialer so much that I would actually use it as my default home screen for my Touch Pro 2. Is it possible to develope it further to include

1) Hold contact shortcut to automatically dial a default contact number instead of offering options.
2) Apply shortcut to start application or files and not just contacts.
3) Add a keyboard search to help add contacts instead of scrolling through list.
4) Add the ability to move position of contacts on screen without having to re-add.

Hi All

Having tried out a number of alternatives to Pointui, I have come full circle and am officially back in love with this UI - a fitting description for Valentine's day! I am looking at how best to integrate a number of other pieces of software with Pointui....

Has anyone managed to integrate Pointui with Pocket Informant tasks (I am using Pocket Informant 9.10.)? Specifically I would like to hook the different categories, projects, next actions etc from Pocket Informant to be accessed through a Tasks applet with appropriate filter settings in Pointui.

Hi guys, I'm a new user from Italy, so first of all sorry for my bad english :D.
I was looking for a shell to give a more modern look to my p3300, so I would try the free versione of point ui home.
Here's my question: what are the differences between the two shell?Google says to me "Home pro is more customizable", but what are the differences?
One more question: all the themes in this forum are compatible with the free version?
Thank you in advance for answering.

Just a thought; please consider this seriously and don't bash.

I've been a PointUI Pro customer for a while now, although I haven't really used PointUI so much recently. I've been mostly tinkering with Titanium. Now I really want to get into PointUI, but there just seems to be a lack of quality applets and a consistent feel. People have to make suites to create a consistent feel, and yet suites often lack one thing or another. Otherwise, one can mash together a collection of applets of all sorts but end up with an interface not looking so much better than a default Today screen.

The PointUI core has already been established as a quality piece of software with great potential and customizability. However, the distinction between Free and Pro still creates a barrier for developers and for users alike: Pro-only applets are scarce and alienate Free users who could very well be contributors.

So this got me thinking: why not make one version of PointUI, and make it free, and then sell applets? Hell, it might even make sense to open source the PointUI core! Who knows what core functionality a community could implement, versus a small team of developers? Applets could then have a dedicated Applets Store, much like the App Store on the iPhone. The reason why the App Store took off was because it was there for users at no extra cost. Could PointUI do the same?

It seems to me that such a development model would make more sense economically too, even if we considered the same number of users as today. Consider that a copy of PointUI Pro costs $20 today. Each Pro user pays a one-time fee of $20, and there is no way to make more money from him. However, if the PointUI user had not paid anything for the core itself, but has the possibility to buy a number of quality applets to extend PointUI, the money he spends on PointUI would be proportional to the amount of customization he performs on his phone, which could be less than $20, but quite possibly more too. Also, consider the fact that in such a model, everyone would have the same feature set, so no one would be held back from a purchase just because he doesn't run on Pro.

In essence, it seems to me that it makes more sense to pay for actual customizations, and not for the ability to customize. It would also encourage the development of quality applets, which is something PointUI currently lacks somewhat. And as a final note, please do not bash me for wanting PointUI Pro for free; as I've said at the beginning, I already bought it.

so i picked up my pro 2 as a "warranty replacement" that i hope does not get my friend fired as the sprint reps were expressly forbidden from giving them as replacements (so my insider says.)

she also told me that sprint will not be shipping anymor touch pros due to all the warranty/insurance claims (i went through 4 in less than a year and i baby my devices).

the touch pro 2 is lightening quick compared to it's predecessor. the device is more responsive with no visible lag yet (no typing lag!).

i have had the device for 2 days now and i absolutely love it.
crisp display, nice heft (feels solid. it's got some weight behind it.), i'm sure some will not like that. i find the weight comforting as i always feel my device in my pocket.

anyway all that long winded blah, blah to say IMO HTC hit it out of the park.

cheers,

Hey guys, I recently decided to put up and build a mobile website (ONLY for phones) for ringtones, images/wallpapers, and stuff like that. I literally started it two days ago, and would like to know if you guys would want to;
a) help with graphics/wml coding (the site is a wap site)
b) upload ringtones/images (as in different resolutions)
c) throw out suggestions on how to make it better

This is the first time I've ever coded in WML and I want to be able to optimize the site, categorize the files, and make it all around better. Do you guys think I should continue on this ?

Of course it would be a free website, donations would be accepted, but I'm not gonna be like "Donate and then I'll make the site" kind of thing, I want to know if I should just throw out the idea and not waste my time, or put some work into something that could be useful.

I won't put the link up yet until a mod/admin says it's okay, since I don't know if I'm allowed to do that :) (and don't want to get in trouble for advertising).

Thanks :)

Last year i found a community site called PointUI.com which develops a UI(user interface). i love that community site cause it was too friendly to me, they listen their user, everybody is equal(no bans), no rubbish and everyone works as he can(im working on my first project athts is nearly done - its a premier league applet with lots of features - i will update it later). My question is that - who is PointUI team, Joel Shane montecristoff PointUI are users that behind their names it says "PointUI" instead of Member as it on everybody else...before some days Monte post a topic says that "Dorothy's back" and i realize that he is the person who upload first PointUI videos on YouTube...Are you Joel, Shane, Monte in PointUI team who develop PointUI or they are not in forum, who are they and who is Dorothy?

logicalstep on "Windows Mobile 6.5"

I thought I'd share with you guys my thoughts on my thoughts on Windows Mobile 6.5.

I just flashed my phone with the latest 6.5 ROM form XDA Devs.

I Have only been using it for 2 days.
So first impression are...it's just WM6.1 with a slightlty different layout and UI.
It's such a joke that MS are pushing this OS as a serious contender to anything on the market today, it just doesn't compete to Android on any level. I think it's actually harder to find your way around on 6.5 with the different layers involved.
You have the start button that takes you to a page of icons and these icons take you to pages of other icons, with no real idea of what level of icon your currently at.
The only difference to the settings menus is the fact you now have left and right arrows up the top instead of Tabs, which are now down the bottom for sub-selections and now have nice rounded corners(very fancy MS...that'll show the Iphone).

The only real improvement is the File explorer which now behaves a little more as it should with a finger, but try cut copy and paste and you get this REALLY slow animation pop-over to show the CCP options, yawn.

The new today default plugin (Titanium) screen is a bit of a joke, it kind of looks like it should be flashy, but it actually isn;t, nore is it usefull.

Maybe it's just the ROM I'm using but I can;t for the life of me find a scrollable list of all the installed programs! ahhhh hmmmm let me think do I need this...YES!

The only thingt that makes 6.5 more tollerable than 6.1 is the fact that HTC have updated thier TouchFlo interface, now thats really good and worth a look, but hey you don't need 6.5 for that.

I'm really REALLY worrried for MS, if it takes thier engineeers 2 years to push out an update like this, thay have no hope of competing with the Iphone and Android. This updated could have been done in 1 Month with the devs on a site like this, so why is it taking them so long?

I expect WM 7 to be a MAJOR update to this OS or they are screwed. It has to have more features than Android, be much easier to delevop for than the Iphone and most importantly...it has to work as a phone, yes a phone, a concpet MS and it's partners seem to be forgetting.

SO anyway, if you're thinking of upgrading to 6.5, my advice is...do it if it's free, don't if it's not.

Well every so often I like to post in the random rants section :P

I had a couple of hours spare to day so I popped into the orange shop(UK). They kindly let me have a play with the new HTC Hero. I have to say, this really is an amazing piece of kit.
The sense UI for android is just amazing, so smooth...really quick.
Now I've been using windows mobiles since WM 2003 and have always loved it for the fact it could do alot of things other phones couldn't. I was surfing the internet before most people even new about mobile browsers, as I'm sure many of you were.

But there comes a point when WM is just tired, it's showing it's age. Now I haven't used the new 6.5, altough I have done alot of research on it (I'm too scared to flash my phone!) From what I have read it's a minor update to the UI and bits to make it a little better.

I have to say it's going to be too little too late. Android is already gaining momentum and with the Hero, it's still early days in android terms and they release a phone like this!.

Windows is going to be left behind and not just with 6.5, but with 7 as well.
It's going to take something SO speacial to win people back from the Iphone and Android.

One of the main advantages I see is the implimentation of full Opengl es 1.0 support

I mean HTC must have actually sorted out the Graphics drivers for the Hero and open gl support just makes it a super smooth experience, in fact I'm not even sure it's using open gl for the 2d stuff and it's still super smooth.

I guess my point is that home is gong to become redundant very quickly, with windows not supporting 3d acceleration in a way the Pointui devs can use, it's end of the road as far as the app goes.

As Joel said, it would have been great to see a 3d version with hardware acceleration, but hey thats not going to happen with WM.

All I can suggest is that Android would be a much brighter future for Home and open up a mass market, the like of which WM has only seen 10 years ago.

So my final word is:

When my contract is up next year I'll be buying an Androis phone and I'd really like to home sat there in the app store in all it's 3d accelerated, version 3.0 goodness.
